Trans-Atlantic Union - Kathy & Peter

March 2009: First wedding of the year and a very special one. The groom, Peter, is from South Africa and most of his family and friends were unable to make the trip to Colorado. However, thanks to a webcam and Skype, the gathering across The Pond was able to share the special day... realtime. A true Trans-Atlantic union.

The sun on the Hudson was so intense today that I felt I could see the infa-red light. I couldn't resist adding an IR effect to the shot.

Guess this is one of those days I'm missing my old film SLR.

Westwater Canyon '09

Just having some fun on the river. This was a first shot at setting up the raft cam (Canon G9 in a waterproof case). The river was running 10,000 cfs and keeping the boat upright and pulling in swimmers took obvious priority over worrying if the camera had shifted.

I'm looking forward to the next trip to get it wired.

I apoligized for not getting something up sooner. However, we are now in Tokyo and have just a bit of time to go through some of my favorites. Here is one, especially appropriate being in Japan now. I will try to add a few more as time allows. As for now, we will be travelling through Japan trying to figure out how to use Japanese keyboards.

Ravel and the Birdsnest

As most of America has moved its attention from the swimming cube, Michael Phelps, & Bob Costas to conventions, hurricanes and football; Beijing maintains focus, fulfilling its promise to the many elite athletes that have worked so hard to compete in the Paralympic Games.

It's warm-up time, athletes are training, new flowers are being planted, and thousands of performers are streaming in and out of the Birdsnest, rehearsing for Opening Ceremonies.

By evening, the Olympic green takes on a peaceful busyness. There are no events, no medal ceremonies, but things are happening, everywhere, reahearsal is still going, workers still working, and there is a calm, quiet that settles in.

Standing between the Cube and the Birdsnest, the lights roll across the Cube and the plaza and the orchestra in the Birdsnest is playing Ravel's Bolero.

These are the times when life offers you that brief moment that must be grabbed, held, sipped and savored (like a fine tequila maybe?).

Because, very soon Beijing and disabled athletes from across the globe will be firing up to work hard, compete, and be the best they can be, regardless if NBC and America are watching.
